Job Description

Overview

  • Support financial operations, focusing on accounting, reporting, and compliance to ensure accurate and timely data for decision-making.
  • Assist the Controller in managing daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Monitor job cost reports, ensuring project financial data is accurate and current.
  • Oversee cash flow management, including forecasting and liquidity planning.
  • Coordinate with project managers to track costs, billings, and change orders effectively.
  • Train and supervise accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements within the accounting department.
  • Manage employee benefits and 401K plans, ensuring compliance with regulations.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Act as second-in-command for the accounting function, stepping into the Controller role when necessary.
  • Lead audit preparation and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Oversee cash flow management, including forecasting and banking relationships.
  • Coordinate with operations staff to ensure accurate tracking of costs and billings.
  • Supervise accounting staff, providing training and support for professional development.
  • Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and systems.
  • Manage employee benefits and compliance with insurance and 401K regulations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of Work-in-Progress (WIP) and revenue recognition.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2–3 years in a Controller/Assistant Controller role.
  • Extensive knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition.
  • Experience coordinating external audits and working with lenders and insurance providers.
  • Proficiency with construction-specific accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage teams effectively.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits management and compliance regulations.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and integrity.
