Overview
- Support financial operations, focusing on accounting, reporting, and compliance to ensure accurate and timely data for decision-making.
- Assist the Controller in managing daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Monitor job cost reports, ensuring project financial data is accurate and current.
- Oversee cash flow management, including forecasting and liquidity planning.
- Coordinate with project managers to track costs, billings, and change orders effectively.
- Train and supervise accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements within the accounting department.
- Manage employee benefits and 401K plans, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Develop and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Act as second-in-command for the accounting function, stepping into the Controller role when necessary.
- Lead audit preparation and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Oversee cash flow management, including forecasting and banking relationships.
- Coordinate with operations staff to ensure accurate tracking of costs and billings.
- Supervise accounting staff, providing training and support for professional development.
- Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and systems.
- Manage employee benefits and compliance with insurance and 401K regulations.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of Work-in-Progress (WIP) and revenue recognition.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2–3 years in a Controller/Assistant Controller role.
- Extensive knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition.
- Experience coordinating external audits and working with lenders and insurance providers.
- Proficiency with construction-specific accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage teams effectively.
- Knowledge of employee benefits management and compliance regulations.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and integrity.
