Job Description

Overview

  • Lead and manage hospital laboratory services, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and continuous survey readiness.
  • Oversee staff competency checks, continuing education programs, and performance improvement processes.
  • Develop and update laboratory and safety policies, incorporating new technologies and procedures.
  • Administer proficiency testing programs, investigate occurrence reports, and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate onboarding, training, and development of laboratory partners, ensuring efficient system utilization.
  • Plan staffing needs, conduct interviews, and manage performance evaluations and improvement plans.
  • Participate in budgeting processes, monitor financial reports, and implement cost-saving measures.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, promoting quality, service, partnering, and fiscal responsibility.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Ensure compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency standards, maintaining continuous survey readiness.
  • Coordinate and administer performance improvement processes, including data collection and dashboard updates.
  • Investigate and implement new laboratory technologies, ensuring validation, training, and documentation.
  • Administer proficiency testing programs and address occurrence reports and customer feedback.
  • Develop and update laboratory and safety policies to ensure operational excellence.
  • Plan staffing needs, conduct interviews, and manage onboarding and training of new hires.
  • Monitor financial reports, investigate discrepancies, and ensure adherence to budget goals.
  • Collaborate with interdepartmental committees and promote efficient utilization of systems and resources.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or related field required; ASCP certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in laboratory leadership; 5 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in managing laboratory operations, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement processes.
  • Strong skills in policy development, technology implementation, and staff management.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and handle physical demands of the role.
  • Experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and cost-saving measures.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Knowledge of laboratory information systems such as Epic/Beaker preferred.
