Job Description
Summary:
A licensed Dental Hygienist is a member of the dental team responsible for the preventative aspects of oral health care. Licensed Dental Hygienists provide clinical, education and therapeutic services that promote optimal oral health.
Duties:
- Provide dental education by reviewing home care, oral hygiene instructions and reviewing treatment plans with the patient.
- Provide clinical services by exposing radiographs, performing dental cleanings, performing scaling and root planning by administering local anesthesia, dispense fluoride and administer therapeutic agents.
- Follow and practice all OSHA standards regarding infection control and blood borne pathogens, inspect instruments for sterility, and perform sterilization and operatory disinfection responsibilities before and after each patient.
- Practice universal precautions.
- Collect patient and clinical data by reviewing and updating medical history, identifying contradictions and requesting medical clearance as necessary.
- Performing oral cancer screenings, period assessments and charting dental findings.
- Set-up and breakdown of operatories and treatment bays before and after each patient.
- Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling).
- Adheres to patient privacy policies in accordance with HIPAA.
Qualifications:
- Vocational, Technical or Associate's Degree
- 1-3 years of relevant experience.
- Licensure as a Dental Hygienist under the state of Massachusetts.
