Overview
- Lead the Health Information Management department, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational standards.
- Develop and implement departmental goals aligned with clinical, administrative, and ethical requirements.
- Oversee patient care documentation, information technologies, and service levels to achieve quality objectives.
- Manage staffing activities, including hiring, orientation, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure adherence to HIPAA and other healthcare regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance departmental operations.
- Provide leadership in training, developing, and administering corrective actions for staff.
- Contribute to organizational decision-making impacting the department and overall business operations.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Direct departmental activities to meet organizational objectives and compliance standards.
- Develop and monitor departmental plans, standards, and performance metrics.
- Evaluate departmental operations, including documentation and complaint management.
- Prepare and manage budgets, ensuring financial efficiency and resource allocation.
- Implement staff training programs and oversee performance evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, such as HIPAA.
- Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer and other stakeholders to align departmental goals.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred; relevant experience may substitute.
- Accreditation as RHIT or RHIA required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Health Information Management; 5 years preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory standards, including HIPAA.
- Proficiency in business mathematics and moderate computer skills.
- Experience in acute care settings and staff development preferred.
- Ability to manage complex communication and varied business problems.
- Willingness to relocate to Los Alamos, NM within 45 days if not already residing there.
