Insurance Specialist

Overview

• Manage and resolve insurance claims across multiple lines, including marine cargo, property, liability, automobile, and workers’ compensation.
• Support contract reviews by assessing insurance-related provisions for policy alignment and risk mitigation.
• Collaborate with brokers, carriers, adjusters, and legal counsel to ensure effective claim resolution.
• Provide loss history and claim summaries to assist with insurance policy renewals.
• Participate in strategic discussions to enhance recovery efforts and claims management processes.
• Contribute to special insurance projects, supporting departmental goals and cross-functional assignments.
• Operate independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing competing priorities effectively.
• Engage in a hybrid work arrangement, combining on-site and remote work flexibility.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Handle end-to-end claims processes for marine cargo, property, liability, automobile, and workers’ compensation.
• Review insurance policies to assess coverage, exclusions, deductibles, and retentions.
• Coordinate with brokers, carriers, adjusters, and legal counsel to ensure compliance with policy timelines.
• Evaluate insurance clauses in contracts, identifying potential risk and coverage gaps.
• Draft claim notifications and provide detailed summaries for renewal preparation.
• Collaborate with internal teams to resolve claims and participate in strategic recovery discussions.
• Support the Insurance Manager and General Manager with special projects and cross-functional assignments.
• Maintain proficiency in claims systems, document management platforms, and Microsoft Office tools.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in insurance, business-related fields, or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum of 7 years of multi-line insurance claims experience, including marine and litigated claims.
• Strong knowledge of insurance policy language, ISO forms, and manuscript policies.
• Proficiency in contractual risk transfer principles and insurance clause analysis.
• Experience coordinating with external counsel and adjusters on complex claims.
• Technically skilled in claims handling and policy interpretation with excellent judgment and risk awareness.
• Effective communication skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
