Overview
- Provide essential nursing care for individuals with developmental disabilities in a supportive environment.
- Coordinate medical care, monitor health needs, and ensure follow-up care.
- Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, families, and clinicians.
- Develop individual-specific nursing plans and protocols tailored to health needs.
- Administer medications and treatments in compliance with regulations and policies.
- Participate in meetings to address health-related concerns and develop care strategies.
- Monitor dietary and nutritional needs, providing guidance to support staff.
- Ensure compliance with infection control and universal precaution guidelines.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Coordinate medical care and monitor health needs, arranging follow-up care as necessary.
- Assess health status through direct observation and document findings for follow-up.
- Communicate with physicians, families, and team members regarding health issues.
- Accompany individuals to medical appointments and advocate for their health needs.
- Develop and update nursing plans and protocols to reflect changes in health status.
- Supervise medication administration and provide necessary training to staff.
- Monitor and manage medication storage and disposal procedures.
- Participate in clinical reviews and evaluations to improve care quality.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and current RN licensure in New York State.
- CPR certification and experience with developmental disabilities preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for effective collaboration.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and work effectively within a team.
- Valid NY State or Tri-state area Driver's License preferred.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and compliance with OSHA guidelines.
- Capability to develop and manage individual-specific nursing plans and protocols.
- Proficiency in supervising medication administration and training staff.
