Overview

  • Provide strategic leadership in housing and real estate finance, ensuring compliance and sustainability for affordable housing initiatives.
  • Oversee financial reporting, audits, and regulatory compliance across various housing entities and structures.
  • Collaborate with leadership to structure projects, acquisitions, and refinancing efforts effectively.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional growth and operational excellence.
  • Enhance internal controls and financial systems to support organizational goals.
  • Act as a liaison with property management firms, ensuring optimal performance and compliance.
  • Support capital planning initiatives and special projects to drive portfolio growth.
  • Maintain oversight of partnership agreements and regulatory documents, ensuring adherence to timelines.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead accounting and financial reporting functions for housing and real estate entities.
  • Prepare and coordinate audits, tax filings, and lender reporting requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy in journal entries, reconciliations, and affiliate financial reporting.
  • Monitor asset management functions, including budgets, reserve management, and variance analysis.
  • Advise leadership on financial structuring for new developments and acquisitions.
  • Oversee compliance with financing requirements during development and operational phases.
  • Supervise financial liaison activities with third-party property management firms.
  • Implement process improvements and financial system upgrades to enhance efficiency.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.
  • 8–11 years of progressive accounting experience, including managerial roles.
  • Experience with nonprofit and affordable housing accounting structures preferred.
  • Proficiency in GAAP, internal controls, and real estate tax requirements.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial systems like Sage Intacct or FundEZ.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead teams effectively.
  • Understanding of affordable housing compliance frameworks and real estate finance.
