Job Description

Overview

  • Lead the Emergency Services department, ensuring optimal patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Manage personnel, fiscal, and material resources with accountability for 24-hour operations.
  • Coordinate staff scheduling based on patient acuity and maintain staffing records.
  • Supervise and mentor department staff, promoting professional development and teamwork.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and quality review standards.
  • Collaborate with interdepartmental teams to enhance workflow and communication.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold organizational standards in all operations.
  • Represent the department in external meetings and community programs.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Oversee the Emergency Services department, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Monitor staff credentials and provide ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and implement progressive discipline when necessary.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Implement inventory and supply control systems to optimize resource utilization.
  • Participate in hospital infection prevention and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate patient care and act as a liaison with pre-hospital emergency services.
  • Promote effective staffing practices and delegate responsibilities based on expertise.
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality standards and organizational policies.

Job Requirements

  • Associate of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum two years of progressive experience in Emergency Department management.
  • Current California RN license and AHA BLS, PALS, ACLS certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of emergency room techniques and legal aspects of nursing.
  • Ability to supervise, delegate, and maintain efficient department operations.
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing policies and performance improvement projects.
  • Excellent communication skills to foster interdepartmental relationships and team collaboration.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 35 pounds.
