Job Description

Overview

  • Prepare tax and information returns for individuals, trusts, estates, and charitable foundations, ensuring compliance with regulations and maintaining detailed records.
  • Support fiduciaries and executors by managing financial records, asset ledgers, and cash transactions from inception to termination.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to administer trusts, estates, and charitable foundations, providing accurate financial information as needed.
  • Participate in audits of tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Maintain organized tax and accounting files, adhering to strict deadlines and ensuring precision in all records.
  • Provide detailed estate and trust accountings for judicial and non-judicial settlements, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
  • Calculate executor and trustee commissions, preparing interrelated tax calculations and managing estimated income taxes.
  • Utilize advanced software tools to manage financial data and create comprehensive reports for stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Prepare federal and state estate tax returns, including asset valuation, deduction organization, and accrual computation.
  • Administer trusts and estates, maintaining checkbooks and detailed financial records for accurate tracking of transactions.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and paralegals to provide financial insights and manage cash balances for expenses and bequests.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations by preparing fiduciary income tax returns and information returns for charitable organizations.
  • Participate in federal and state audits, addressing queries and ensuring adherence to financial and tax standards.
  • Organize and maintain tax and accounting files, ensuring accessibility and accuracy for ongoing and future reference.
  • Prepare detailed accountings for estates and trusts, supporting judicial and non-judicial settlements effectively.
  • Utilize financial software to enhance efficiency in managing tax calculations and generating reports.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required; CPA or Enrolled Agent preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a fiduciary accountant in a law or public accounting firm.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and specialized software such as ProSystems, Omega, and Number Cruncher.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, capable of maintaining precise financial records.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment.
  • Availability to work additional hours as needed, adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Experience in preparing complex tax returns and managing audits with federal and state authorities.
  • Familiarity with estate and trust administration, including financial record maintenance and tax compliance.
