Job Description

Overview

  • Provide essential support to a visually impaired defense attorney in criminal defense cases.
  • Assist with client services, court proceedings, and case preparation tasks.
  • Perform administrative duties such as reading, note-taking, and correspondence management.
  • Collaborate with clients, attorneys, and external agencies to ensure effective communication.
  • Support the attorney during court arraignments and weekend duties as required.
  • Utilize case management systems to manage referrals and case records efficiently.
  • Contribute to drafting legal motions and defense-related documentation.
  • Ensure client-related forms and releases are completed accurately and timely.
  • Maintain a professional and detail-oriented approach in all tasks.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Escort the attorney to court and assist during proceedings.
  • Read and summarize court files, client correspondence, and legal motions.
  • Take detailed notes during client interviews and court sessions.
  • Draft defense motions and other legal documentation under attorney guidance.
  • Handle client-related phone calls and inter-office referrals.
  • Research case records and prepare comprehensive written reports.
  • Assemble court files and materials for case preparation.
  • Serve as liaison between the attorney and clients, ensuring clear communication.
  • Assist clients with forms, releases, and referrals to external agencies.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, Paralegal Certificate, or 4 years of relevant experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of paralegal experience in a legal setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management systems.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on-site and accompany the attorney to court sessions.
  • Experience in handling client correspondence and legal documentation.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and case management.
