Overview
- Provide essential support to a visually impaired defense attorney in criminal defense cases.
- Assist with client services, court proceedings, and case preparation tasks.
- Perform administrative duties such as reading, note-taking, and correspondence management.
- Collaborate with clients, attorneys, and external agencies to ensure effective communication.
- Support the attorney during court arraignments and weekend duties as required.
- Utilize case management systems to manage referrals and case records efficiently.
- Contribute to drafting legal motions and defense-related documentation.
- Ensure client-related forms and releases are completed accurately and timely.
- Maintain a professional and detail-oriented approach in all tasks.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Escort the attorney to court and assist during proceedings.
- Read and summarize court files, client correspondence, and legal motions.
- Take detailed notes during client interviews and court sessions.
- Draft defense motions and other legal documentation under attorney guidance.
- Handle client-related phone calls and inter-office referrals.
- Research case records and prepare comprehensive written reports.
- Assemble court files and materials for case preparation.
- Serve as liaison between the attorney and clients, ensuring clear communication.
- Assist clients with forms, releases, and referrals to external agencies.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, Paralegal Certificate, or 4 years of relevant experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of paralegal experience in a legal setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management systems.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work on-site and accompany the attorney to court sessions.
