Job Description

Overview

  • Provide professional phlebotomy services, ensuring patient comfort and accurate specimen collection.
  • Perform venipunctures and other specimen collection procedures with precision and care.
  • Prepare, label, and store specimens following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations for safety and hygiene.
  • Maintain accurate patient and specimen records using laboratory requisition forms.
  • Support laboratory operations by centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required.
  • Provide clear explanations to patients regarding procedures to ensure their comfort.
  • Participate in annual training sessions to stay updated on best practices.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform venipunctures and specimen collection using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Label, centrifuge, and store specimens according to test order requirements.
  • Ensure proper matching of requisition forms with specimen tubes.
  • Package specimens for transport while maintaining their integrity.
  • Comply with safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Update patient information and laboratory records accurately.
  • Answer inquiries and provide laboratory results as needed.
  • Assist with decontamination and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience; 2 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture techniques using various needle types.
  • Knowledge of specimen handling and storage protocols.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain procedures to patients.
  • Ability to work on-site during scheduled hours.
