Overview
- Perform blood draws and specimen preparation with precision and care.
- Ensure patient comfort and obtain samples with minimal discomfort.
- Handle specimens following established procedures and regulatory guidelines.
- Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly to patients.
- Utilize straight and butterfly needles effectively for sample collection.
- Match laboratory requisitions to specimen tubes accurately.
- Package and store specimens as per temperature and transport requirements.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and wear appropriate PPE.
- Participate in annual department training sessions.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures efficiently.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as per test orders.
- Ensure accuracy in matching requisitions to specimen tubes.
- Store and transport specimens maintaining their integrity.
- Answer inquiries and provide laboratory results via telephone.
- Maintain compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Attend training sessions and stay updated on protocols.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the department.
- Maintain proper documentation and decontamination records.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Proficiency in venipuncture techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
- Knowledge of specimen handling and storage protocols.
- Familiarity with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Ability to maintain patient comfort and professionalism.
