Job Description

Overview

  • Perform blood draws and specimen preparation with precision and care.
  • Ensure patient comfort and obtain samples with minimal discomfort.
  • Handle specimens following established procedures and regulatory guidelines.
  • Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly to patients.
  • Utilize straight and butterfly needles effectively for sample collection.
  • Match laboratory requisitions to specimen tubes accurately.
  • Package and store specimens as per temperature and transport requirements.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and wear appropriate PPE.
  • Participate in annual department training sessions.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures efficiently.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as per test orders.
  • Ensure accuracy in matching requisitions to specimen tubes.
  • Store and transport specimens maintaining their integrity.
  • Answer inquiries and provide laboratory results via telephone.
  • Maintain compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Attend training sessions and stay updated on protocols.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the department.
  • Maintain proper documentation and decontamination records.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Knowledge of specimen handling and storage protocols.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Ability to maintain patient comfort and professionalism.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Effective communication skills for patient interaction.
  • Willingness to work on-site and adhere to the schedule provided.
