Job Description

Overview

  • Serve as a pivotal member of the finance team, overseeing key accounting functions and ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Manage and improve critical business processes within the accounting office, including transaction recording and general ledger integrity.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and organizational standards.
  • Coordinate the organization’s annual audit, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff, fostering collaboration and professional growth within the team.
  • Analyze contributions and grants for proper treatment under Not-For-Profit GAAP guidelines.
  • Provide detailed cash flow projections and maintain donor restriction release schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and enterprise software systems.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Review journal entries and schedules for various financial categories, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare combined financial statements and reports for month-end close processes.
  • Forecast cash flow and provide detailed monthly projections to support financial planning.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, preparing necessary schedules and information for audits and tax filings.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train accounting staff, setting goals and evaluating performance effectively.
  • Analyze financial data and communicate insights to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ensure compliance with donor restrictions and maintain accurate release schedules.
  • Utilize nonprofit enterprise software to manage financial data and reporting processes.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional nonprofit accounting experience, including 2 years of team management.
  • Proficiency in GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards essential.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in other Office applications.
  • Experience with nonprofit enterprise software such as SAGE Intacct or similar systems.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting complex financial information.
