Job Description

Overview

  • Assist physicians in providing high-quality ophthalmic care to patients in a dynamic clinical setting.
  • Perform various ophthalmic tests and procedures, ensuring accuracy and patient comfort.
  • Support patient education on ocular conditions and care, fostering understanding and compliance.
  • Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic instruments and equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Collaborate with physicians and staff to enhance workflow and patient satisfaction.
  • Utilize electronic medical records to document patient histories and procedures accurately.
  • Contribute to inventory management, ensuring availability of necessary supplies.
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay updated on ophthalmic practices and technologies.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Obtain and document patient histories and visual acuities in electronic medical records.
  • Perform diagnostic tests including color vision, stereopsis, and auto refractometer readings.
  • Assist in in-office ophthalmic procedures and scribing physician dictations.
  • Educate patients on ocular conditions and provide guidance on treatment plans.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and sterilize ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and restock supplies as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines in patient record management.
  • Address patient inquiries and resolve issues in consultation with the ophthalmologist.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; formal ophthalmic training preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical ophthalmic setting.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, and ophthalmic procedures preferred.
  • Current JCAHPO certification as COA, COT, or CMOT required within 12 months of hire.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and diagnostic equipment operation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to educate patients effectively and address their concerns.
  • Commitment to maintaining sterile and compliant clinical environments.
