Job Description

Overview

  • Assist physicians in delivering exceptional patient care and communication within a dynamic ophthalmology practice.
  • Perform clinical tasks including patient history taking, diagnostic testing, and scribing for physicians.
  • Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic instruments, ensuring optimal functionality and cleanliness.
  • Educate patients on ocular conditions and care, fostering understanding and compliance.
  • Support inventory management, ensuring supplies are stocked and medications are up-to-date.
  • Collaborate with a professional team to enhance workflow efficiency and patient satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Obtain and document patient histories and perform visual acuity tests.
  • Administer diagnostic tests such as color vision and auto refractometer readings.
  • Assist physicians during in-office ophthalmic procedures and patient consultations.
  • Maintain and sterilize ophthalmic instruments and equipment regularly.
  • Transcribe physician dictations into electronic medical records accurately.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure all supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Educate patients on ocular health and post-treatment care instructions.
  • Handle patient inquiries and provide resolutions in consultation with physicians.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; formal ophthalmic training preferred.
  • Current JCAHPO certification as COA, COT, or CMOT required within 12 months of hire.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology preferred.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record systems and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage inventory and workflow effectively.
  • Ability to educate patients and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical setting; 2 years preferred.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment.
