Overview

  • Provide expert inpatient coding services in a remote, contract-based role, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and industry standards.
  • Interpret and apply advanced coding guidelines to support accurate claims processing and provider reimbursement strategies.
  • Conduct thorough audits and reviews of medical records to ensure coding accuracy and adherence to compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to enhance coding practices and improve documentation standards.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs on coding and documentation for staff and providers.
  • Adapt to evolving industry demands to maintain efficiency and compliance in coding practices.
  • Utilize health data analytics to inform reimbursement strategies and policy decisions effectively.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical classification and reimbursement guidelines for provider contracts.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Accurately assign diagnoses and procedures within medical records using established coding standards and guidelines.
  • Monitor and implement regulatory updates to ensure compliance with coding guidelines and healthcare regulations.
  • Conduct audits to validate coding accuracy and compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Address claim denials and rejections, providing actionable recommendations for resolution and improvement.
  • Develop and implement policies to enhance coding quality and operational efficiency across departments.
  • Generate statistical reports on health information management compliance issues for organizational review.
  • Provide training and mentorship to staff on coding and documentation best practices and standards.
  • Support ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding across various healthcare departments and specialties.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field is required for this role.
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification is mandatory for consideration.
  • Minimum of 5 years of inpatient coding experience in a healthcare setting is essential.
  • Proficiency with encoder and electronic medical record (EMR) systems is required.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are necessary for success.
  • Knowledge of denials management and coding compliance is preferred for this position.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment is crucial.
  • Experience in developing and implementing coding policies and procedures is advantageous.
