Overview
- Support the migration of Windows 10 virtual desktops to Windows 11 in an on-premises VMware Horizon environment.
- Collaborate with Service Desk, Infrastructure, and Security teams to ensure a smooth migration process.
- Execute upgrade strategies for persistent user-assigned virtual desktops with minimal disruption.
- Validate application and user profile compatibility during the migration process.
- Provide hands-on support for end-users during pilot and migration phases.
- Document standard operating procedures for ongoing support and troubleshooting.
- Operate in a highly regulated enterprise environment ensuring compliance with security baselines.
- Support on-site migrations at secondary office locations as required.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Plan and execute the upgrade strategy for persistent Windows 10 virtual desktops to Windows 11.
- Refine configurations based on deployment feedback and performance analysis.
- Support phased production rollout with user communications and readiness validation.
- Provide cutover support and early life stabilization for migrated systems.
- Develop rollback or recovery procedures to ensure system stability.
- Produce detailed documentation for upgrade procedures and troubleshooting guides.
- Collaborate with teams to address application compatibility and user profile issues.
- Utilize PowerShell for automation and validation during migration waves.
Job Requirements
- 5+ years of experience supporting VMware Horizon VDI environments with persistent desktops.
- Proven expertise in Windows 11 migrations including pilot execution and production rollout.
- Strong knowledge of Windows 11 Enterprise builds and security baselines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 application support within virtual desktop environments.
- Experience with PowerShell for automation and troubleshooting.
- Ability to provide on-site and remote end-user support during migration phases.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required for this contract role.
- Capability to work on-site five days a week and travel to secondary locations as needed.
