Overview
- Serve as a Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department, providing holistic, individualized care using the nursing process.
- Coordinate quality patient care through implementation of nursing processes during night shifts.
- Act as a resource person, role model, and mentor for staff development and clinical competency.
- Ensure therapies and treatments are administered as ordered, maintaining high standards of care.
- Participate in emergencies and community disaster responses as a designated disaster service worker.
- Maintain compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, ensuring ethical standards.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, supervisors, and other departments to achieve organizational goals.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality assurance findings within the unit.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring efficient patient flow and care delivery.
- Manage staffing needs, including breaks and lunches, to maintain optimal resource utilization.
- Respond to and oversee staff actions during "Code" situations, ensuring appropriate responses.
- Mentor staff in problem resolution and clinical development, fostering a supportive environment.
- Facilitate intra- and inter-departmental relationships to enhance teamwork and collaboration.
- Participate in policy revisions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in addressing patient complaints and conflict situations to ensure satisfaction and resolution.
- Attend daily meetings to assist with patient admissions and operational planning.
- Demonstrate advanced clinical skills and knowledge, serving as a trainer for staff.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; must hold current RN licensure in California.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in emergency care; 4 years preferred.
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS; CPI certification within 1 year.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, effective communication, and interpersonal relations.
- Ability to calculate medication dosages and solutions accurately.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with clinical software systems.
- Commitment to professional development through certifications and training programs.
- Knowledge of EMTALA regulations and emergency nursing practices.
