Job Description

Overview

  • Lead cost accounting initiatives, ensuring accurate manufacturing and inventory cost analysis across multiple business units.
  • Develop and refine costing models to optimize operational efficiency and financial accuracy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align financial insights with operational strategies.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to enhance cost management and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Support month-end close processes and inventory reconciliations to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Travel to manufacturing sites to understand local processes and build relationships.
  • Participate in budgeting and forecasting exercises related to inventory and COGS.
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to cost accounting systems and procedures.
  • Work in a remote setting with occasional travel for team meetings and site visits.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform cost and variance analysis for purchasing and manufacturing operations.
  • Build and maintain robust costing models from the ground up.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and identify trends, inefficiencies, and outliers.
  • Manage inventory controls and related accounting processes.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to confirm inventory balances and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist in month-end inventory reconciliations and audits to ensure compliance.
  • Partner with Finance and Operations teams to support month-end close processes.
  • Travel to manufacturing sites to gain firsthand knowledge of processes and build relationships.
  • Support automation and standardization of cost reporting across entities.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing and inventory costing methods.
  • Proven ability to build and optimize cost models from scratch.
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with ERP systems like NetSuite or SAP.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% for site visits.
  • Experience in the cannabis industry is highly desirable.
