Respiratory Therapist Overview
- The Respiratory Therapist will provide expert care and treatment plans for patients requiring respiratory therapy, ensuring optimal health outcomes.
- Collaborate with physicians to determine effective respiratory therapy treatments tailored to individual patient needs.
- Administer and monitor therapeutic interventions, including bronchodilators, mechanical ventilators, and breathing exercises.
- Evaluate treatment effectiveness and recommend adjustments to optimize patient recovery and comfort.
- Document all patient interactions and treatment outcomes in electronic medical records accurately and promptly.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhering to infection control policies and safety protocols.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in respiratory therapy practices.
- Support discharge planning by collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure seamless patient transitions.
Respiratory Therapist Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Administer respiratory therapy treatments, including therapeutic gas administration and aerosol generation, as prescribed by physicians.
- Monitor and evaluate patients' physiological responses to therapy, adjusting treatments as necessary.
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment, troubleshooting and coordinating repairs as needed.
- Educate patients and their families on respiratory care practices and equipment usage to promote health and recovery.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
- Adhere to all facility procedures and protocols, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Participate in infection control initiatives to safeguard patient and staff well-being.
- Provide support to the RT Supervisor or Manager by completing assigned tasks and responsibilities effectively.
Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; additional certifications in respiratory therapy preferred.
- RRT, RCP, CRTT certification or eligibility meeting NBRC requirements is mandatory.
- Valid state Respiratory Care license is required for practice.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in respiratory therapy; additional experience is advantageous.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 30 lbs and perform physical tasks.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to work independently or in a team.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
