Job Description

Respiratory Therapist Overview

  • The Respiratory Therapist will provide exceptional patient care through effective respiratory therapy treatment plans, ensuring compliance with established protocols and physician prescriptions.
  • Administer bronchodilators, manage mechanical ventilators, and monitor therapeutic gas and aerosol generator systems to support patient respiratory needs.
  • Evaluate patient progress by observing and documenting responses to therapy, recommending adjustments to treatment plans as necessary.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals for comprehensive discharge planning and patient care documentation in electronic medical records.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by adhering to infection-control policies and equipment maintenance protocols.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay updated on the latest respiratory therapy practices and technologies.
  • Work 12-hour shifts, either day or night, in a dynamic and supportive healthcare environment.

Respiratory Therapist Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop and implement respiratory therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians and based on prescriptions.
  • Administer bronchopulmonary therapy treatments, assist with breathing exercises, and monitor physiological responses to therapy.
  • Document patient care activities accurately in electronic medical records to ensure effective communication among healthcare teams.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring functionality and compliance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection control policies and maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for discharge planning and patient care optimization.
  • Stay informed on industry advancements by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and participating in professional societies.

Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; relevant certifications such as RRT, RCP, CRTT preferred.
  • Valid state Respiratory Care license and compliance with NBRC requirements necessary.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in respiratory therapy, with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 25-30 lbs and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of following established facility procedures and protocols.
  • Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including day and night rotations, as needed.
