Urology Coder Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Triage and respond to coding and reimbursement inquiries from urologists and practice managers.
- Conduct coding research and draft internal summaries for organizational use.
- Support preparation and follow-up for CPT and RUC-related activities, including code change applications.
- Analyze RUC survey data and assist with strategy discussions and coding workgroups.
- Provide strategic advice and technical support for insurance coverage and payment issues.
- Monitor and triage the payment policy inbox, ensuring timely follow-up.
- Maintain and coordinate updates for the industry consulting program tracker.
- Provide expert-level guidance on urology-related codes and reimbursement practices.
Urology Coder Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience in medical coding.
- CPC certification and strong knowledge of CPT coding and reimbursement processes required.
- Experience in urology coding and familiarity with AMA RUC and CPT processes preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and ability to adapt to new technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to work with large data sets and provide technical coding guidance.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for project tracking and follow-through.
- Excellent professional judgment and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Experience with specialty societies, payer policy, and MAC LCDs is advantageous.
