Speech Language Pathologist Overview

• As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will evaluate communication needs and create individualized treatment plans to support functional communication across diverse environments.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote meaningful participation, independence, and quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Conduct comprehensive evaluations and implement evidence-informed treatment plans tailored to each student’s strengths, needs, and goals.
• Provide individual and group speech-language therapy within a transdisciplinary model of care, ensuring effective interventions.
• Assess, recommend, and monitor augmentative and alternative communication systems to enhance communication capabilities.
• Promote functional communication, self-advocacy, and autonomy across educational, residential, vocational, and community settings.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation following organizational and regulatory standards to track progress and outcomes.
• Participate in professional development and contribute discipline-specific expertise to organizational learning initiatives.

Speech Language Pathologist Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Conduct comprehensive speech-language evaluations and re-evaluations to identify individual needs and goals.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans aligned with evidence-based practices and student-specific requirements.
• Provide consultation and coaching to staff to promote communication skill generalization across settings.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for assessment, treatment planning, and Individualized Transdisciplinary Education Plans (ITEPs).
• Support families through consultation, education, and communication regarding student progress and strategies.
• Participate in admissions, quarterly reviews, transition planning, and discharge planning processes.
• Provide crisis prevention and clinical risk support during behavioral crises and assist in developing proactive communication supports.
• Monitor student progress using clinical observation, outcome measures, and ongoing data collection to adapt treatment plans.

Speech Language Pathologist Job Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and NYS Licensure in good standing.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) and Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience, with 3 years preferred, working in relevant settings.
• Experience with autistic individuals or individuals with developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems is preferred.
• Ability to ambulate around diverse campus terrains and react promptly during student crises.
• Completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools (TCIS) is required.
• Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills and commitment to professional development.
