Radiologist Assistant Overview

  • The Radiologist Assistant supports radiologists by performing advanced image-guided procedures under supervision, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Conducts fluoroscopy procedures, esophagrams, arthrograms, biopsies, and other specialized imaging tasks as privileged.
  • Administers contrast media following established protocols and guidelines to enhance diagnostic imaging.
  • Manages patient communication, explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and ensuring cooperation during imaging processes.
  • Documents patient medical history relevant to procedures, utilizing EPIC, RIS, and PACS systems effectively.
  • Collaborates with healthcare teams to ensure accurate and comprehensive patient care and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Follows radiation safety guidelines to minimize exposure risks to patients and staff.
  • Contributes to the organization’s mission and values by maintaining high standards of ethics and compliance.

Radiologist Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform advanced image-guided procedures under radiologist supervision, including fluoroscopy, biopsies, and vascular access.
  • Administer contrast media and ensure adherence to established imaging protocols.
  • Explain imaging procedures to patients, ensuring comfort and cooperation throughout the process.
  • Document patient medical history relevant to imaging procedures and obtain necessary consents.
  • Utilize EPIC, RIS, and PACS systems for effective patient data management and imaging workflow.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to deliver accurate and comprehensive patient care.
  • Adhere to radiation safety guidelines to minimize exposure risks to patients and staff.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to enhance expertise in radiology practices.

Radiologist Assistant Job Requirements

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in a related field and completion of an ARRT-approved radiologist assistant program.
  • Certification as a Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA) through ARRT and licensure by IEMA.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association.
  • Proficiency in EMR, RIS, and PACS systems for patient data management.
  • Minimum one year of clinical experience in interventional radiography preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and imaging modalities like X-Ray, CT, and Ultrasound.
  • Certification as a Vascular Interventional Radiographer (VI) through ARRT is advantageous.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills with a commitment to patient care and safety.
