Fiduciary Accountant Overview

  • The Fiduciary Accountant role involves applying fiduciary accounting principles to prepare and file various tax returns and financial documents.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and teams to ensure accurate estate and trust account management and compliance.
  • Maintain and update estate and trust records, ensuring adherence to firm policies and security protocols.
  • Engage in estate and gift tax planning, including actuarial and interest computations.
  • Work in a hybrid environment, combining remote and on-site responsibilities.
  • Leverage advanced accounting and tax software to optimize workflows and deliver high-quality results.

Fiduciary Accountant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Prepare and file Federal and state estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Develop estate and trust accountings for judicial settlement in Surrogate’s Court.
  • Conduct estate and gift tax planning, including computations for trusts and charitable entities.
  • Maintain and update estate and trust accounts and tax records.
  • Respond to IRS and state audit inquiries, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Collaborate directly with attorneys to address fiduciary accounting needs.
  • Utilize advanced accounting software for efficient tax preparation and reporting.
  • Adhere to firm policies and security protocols to protect sensitive information.

Fiduciary Accountant Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or tax is required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in estate and trust environments, preferably in a law firm.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, OMEGA accounting software, and Wolters Kluwer Pro Systems tax software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work independently while fostering partnerships in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of estate and gift tax planning concepts and computations.
  • Experience responding to audit inquiries and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
