Job Description

Dental Assistant Overview

  • The Dental Assistant will support dentists and hygienists in delivering high-quality dental care to patients.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and OSHA standards while assisting in dental procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain dental operatories, ensuring a clean and organized environment.
  • Perform dental radiographs and basic laboratory procedures, such as pouring impressions and trimming models.
  • Assist in patient scheduling, chart preparation, and referral processing using electronic health record systems.
  • Provide oral health education to patients and community groups to promote dental hygiene awareness.
  • Maintain inventory and assist in the upkeep of dental supplies and equipment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and respect when interacting with patients and team members.

Dental Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Act as a chairside assistant during dental procedures, employing four-handed techniques.
  • Take dental radiographs following established radiographic protocols.
  • Disinfect and package instruments for sterilization, adhering to protocols.
  • Set up and close dental operatories daily, ensuring readiness and cleanliness.
  • Assist in maintaining dental equipment, including autoclaves and x-ray processors.
  • Support the dental reception area with tasks such as scheduling and confirming appointments.
  • Organize and prepare patient charts and manage referral forms as needed.
  • Teach oral health education to patients and community groups.
  • Report any issues or unusual occurrences to the supervisor promptly.

Dental Assistant Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Certification from a recognized Dental Assistant training school is mandatory.
  • Minimum of one year of chairside dental experience; two years preferred.
  • Proficiency in infection control techniques and dental radiography.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking ability is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to use electronic health record systems for scheduling and patient management.
