Project Controls Engineer Overview
- The Project Controls Engineer will support the planning and execution of complex construction projects, ensuring schedules and milestones are achieved.
- Develop and maintain detailed schedules, collaborating with teams to optimize project performance and mitigate risks.
- Analyze schedule performance, identify delays, and recommend recovery strategies to ensure project success.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and subcontractors to align schedules and improve efficiency.
- Perform critical path analysis, evaluate impacts of scope changes, and support claims avoidance through accurate documentation.
- Prepare milestone tracking reports and executive presentations to communicate project progress effectively.
- Maintain project controls documentation and historical schedule data for future reference and analysis.

Project Controls Engineer Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Develop and maintain CPM schedules throughout all construction phases, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
- Update schedules regularly based on field progress and reporting, preparing look-ahead schedules for teams.
- Analyze schedule performance, identify delays, and recommend recovery strategies to maintain project timelines.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors to ensure schedule alignment and efficiency.
- Perform critical path analysis and evaluate impacts of scope changes or unforeseen conditions.
- Support project forecasting related to manpower, production rates, procurement, and major milestones.
- Assist with schedule narratives, executive reporting, and owner presentations to communicate project status.
- Participate in planning meetings, pull planning sessions, and project coordination meetings to enhance collaboration.
- Monitor schedule compliance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity.
Project Controls Engineer Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in construction scheduling, project controls, or project engineering; 5 years preferred.
- Experience supporting large commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or manufacturing projects is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with scheduling software such as Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling methodologies, and Critical Path Method (CPM).
- Working knowledge of construction management platforms like Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with diverse teams.
