Overview
- Provide comprehensive legal and non-legal research services to attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff using diverse print and online resources.
- Work under the guidance of the Manager of Research Services, ensuring quality and confidentiality in all research activities.
- Conduct corporate, litigation, and legislative research, including retrieving documents, analyzing precedents, and compiling deal data.
- Supervise external research requests and monitor alerts for news, filings, and other relevant sources.
- Assist in training programs for new associates and paralegals, enhancing their research capabilities.
- Evaluate and recommend new information resources to improve research services within the firm.
- Collaborate with teams to update internal publications and prepare client presentations.
- Maintain proficiency with research databases and firm software to ensure efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Conduct SEC research, retrieving documents and analyzing agreements and precedents.
- Perform corporate research, gathering background information on companies, individuals, and transactions.
- Execute litigation research, retrieving dockets, pleadings, and analyzing complex fact patterns.
- Provide data for firm publications, seminar materials, and client presentations.
- Supervise external research requests, ensuring quality and confidentiality.
- Create and monitor alerts for news, filings, and other relevant updates.
- Participate in orientation and training programs for new associates and paralegals.
- Evaluate new information resources and recommend beneficial tools for the firm.
Job Requirements
- Master of Science in Library Science required; J.D. preferred.
- Minimum three years of research experience in a law or financial firm.
- Proficiency with research databases like Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg, and others.
- Strong computer skills, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for diverse clientele interaction.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-pressure environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex research challenges.
