Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Overview

  • The Dermatology Nurse Practitioner role focuses on providing high-quality medical dermatology care in a rural healthcare setting.
  • Deliver patient-centered care, ensuring continuity of treatment and expanding access to dermatology services.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians in a supportive and professional environment.
  • Perform dermatologic evaluations and procedures, including biopsies, cryotherapy, and lesion removal.
  • Educate patients on skin health, disease prevention, and treatment plans.

Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform comprehensive dermatologic evaluations, including full-body skin exams and patient histories.
  • Diagnose and manage various dermatologic conditions, including acne, eczema, and psoriasis.
  • Evaluate and treat precancerous and cancerous skin lesions within scope of practice.
  • Conduct dermatologic procedures such as biopsies, cryotherapy, and lesion removal.
  • Order and interpret dermatopathology and diagnostic testing.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies adhering to licensure guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EMR systems.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical, regulatory, and HIPAA standards.

Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited NP or PA program.
  • Active North Carolina NP or PA license and national certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year of dermatology experience beyond clinical rotations.
  • Preferred dermatology certification or willingness to pursue certification.
  • Proficiency in performing dermatologic procedures such as biopsies and cryotherapy.
  • Familiarity with dermatoscopy and electronic medical record systems.
  • Strong clinical assessment and patient education skills.
  • Interest in rural healthcare and building long-term patient relationships.
