Job Description

Nurse Manager Labor and Delivery Overview

  • Lead and manage clinical operations for the Labor and Delivery unit, ensuring exceptional patient care and adherence to professional standards.
  • Collaborate with diverse healthcare teams to foster a supportive and inclusive environment for patients and caregivers.
  • Oversee a high-volume unit with approximately 550-600 births per month, including specialized programs and services.
  • Drive initiatives to improve quality metrics, patient satisfaction, and staff retention within the department.
  • Implement evidence-based practices and educational programs to enhance clinical competencies and service delivery.
  • Support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts through innovative programs and collaborative leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies while maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Advocate for patients and caregivers, addressing ethical and cultural considerations in care delivery.

Nurse Manager Labor and Delivery Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage daily operations of the Labor and Delivery unit, including staffing, patient assignments, and clinical activities.
  • Develop and implement unit-based goals for quality patient care and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care delivery and improve outcomes.
  • Monitor and enforce standards of nursing practice and patient care within the unit.
  • Lead recruitment efforts for experienced RNs, travelers, and residency program candidates.
  • Support staff development through coaching, education, and performance evaluations.
  • Conduct rounds to assess patient care and address any concerns or satisfaction issues.
  • Collaborate on DEI initiatives and implement programs like TEAMBirth and Doula services.

Nurse Manager Labor and Delivery Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or ADN with commitment to obtain BSN within two years.
  • Active Washington Registered Nurse License and BLS certification upon hire.
  • Minimum of three years of recent clinical experience in a related nursing area.
  • Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Nursing and one year of management experience.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on collaboration, quality improvement, and staff retention.
  • Experience in managing high-volume units and implementing evidence-based practices.
  • Ability to advocate for patients and caregivers while addressing ethical and cultural considerations.
