Dental Hygienist Overview

  • The Dental Hygienist will provide essential preventative oral health care services in a dynamic clinical environment.
  • Deliver clinical, educational, and therapeutic services to promote optimal oral health for patients.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, treatment plans, and preventative care strategies.
  • Perform dental cleanings, scaling, root planning, and administer therapeutic agents.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, infection control, and universal precautions.
  • Conduct oral cancer screenings, perio assessments, and document dental findings accurately.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with the dental team to enhance patient care and clinical outcomes.
  • Contribute to the organization’s commitment to high-quality dental services.

Dental Hygienist Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide dental education, including oral hygiene instructions and treatment plan reviews.
  • Expose radiographs and perform dental cleanings, scaling, and root planning.
  • Administer local anesthesia, fluoride treatments, and therapeutic agents as needed.
  • Inspect and sterilize instruments, ensuring operatory disinfection before and after each patient.
  • Collect patient data, update medical history, and request medical clearance when necessary.
  • Perform oral cancer screenings and periodontal assessments, documenting findings accurately.
  • Set up and break down operatories and treatment bays efficiently.
  • Teach patients effective oral hygiene strategies, including brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory and organizational policies.

Dental Hygienist Job Requirements

  • Vocational, Technical, or Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene required.
  • Licensure as a Dental Hygienist in the state of Massachusetts mandatory.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred; entry-level candidates considered.
  • Proof of immunity for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and recent Tdap vaccination required.
  • Annual Tuberculosis (TB) test results with documented induration measurements necessary.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and infection control practices essential.
  • Ability to perform clinical assessments and document findings accurately.
  • Excellent communication skills to educate and interact with patients effectively.
