Dental Hygienist Overview

- Perform dental cleanings, scaling, root planning, and administer therapeutic agents.

Dental Hygienist Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Provide dental education, including oral hygiene instructions and treatment plan reviews.
- Expose radiographs and perform dental cleanings, scaling, and root planning.
- Administer local anesthesia, fluoride treatments, and therapeutic agents as needed.
- Inspect and sterilize instruments, ensuring operatory disinfection before and after each patient.
- Collect patient data, update medical history, and request medical clearance when necessary.
- Perform oral cancer screenings and periodontal assessments, documenting findings accurately.
- Set up and break down operatories and treatment bays efficiently.
- Teach patients effective oral hygiene strategies, including brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling.
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory and organizational policies.
Dental Hygienist Job Requirements
- Vocational, Technical, or Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene required.
- Licensure as a Dental Hygienist in the state of Massachusetts mandatory.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred; entry-level candidates considered.
- Proof of immunity for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and recent Tdap vaccination required.
- Annual Tuberculosis (TB) test results with documented induration measurements necessary.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and infection control practices essential.
- Ability to perform clinical assessments and document findings accurately.
- Excellent communication skills to educate and interact with patients effectively.
