OPWDD Registered Nurse Overview
- The OPWDD Registered Nurse will provide essential healthcare services to individuals with developmental disabilities in a community-based program.
- Support individuals' medical and behavioral needs, ensuring their well-being and promoting quality of life.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement personalized care plans.
- Administer medications and oversee medication management processes for compliance and safety.
- Provide training to staff on vital healthcare practices, including hygiene and infection control.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid as required.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in adherence to regulatory standards.
- Coordinate medical appointments and accompany individuals to ensure proper care delivery.
- Support infection control initiatives and promote communicable disease prevention strategies.
OPWDD Registered Nurse Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Conduct nursing assessments and provide follow-up care for individuals receiving services.
- Coordinate referrals, medical appointments, and follow-up care for individuals.
- Monitor individuals' health status and update treatment plans accordingly.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, annual reviews, and case conferences.
- Administer medications and oversee certified staff in medication management.
- Provide training on vital signs, hygiene, and recognizing illness symptoms.
- Supervise LPNs and less experienced nursing staff as needed.
- Maintain nursing supplies and ensure the office is adequately stocked.
- Collaborate with families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to optimize care.
OPWDD Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
- Active New York State RN license and registration.
- CPR/BLS certification is required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience; 2+ years preferred, especially in community-based care.
- Experience with OPWDD or individuals with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills to work effectively in a team.
- Familiarity with adaptive equipment and wheelchairs is a plus.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Proficiency in English for effective communication and documentation.
