OPWDD Registered Nurse Overview
- The OPWDD Registered Nurse will provide essential nursing care for community-based programs supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.

OPWDD Registered Nurse Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Conduct nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans for program participants.
- Coordinate medical appointments, referrals, and follow-up care for individuals.
- Administer medications and oversee medication storage and staff administration practices.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences to ensure holistic care.
- Provide training to staff on medical procedures, hygiene, and recognizing symptoms of illness.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate care as needed.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with documentation standards.
- Support infection control initiatives and communicable disease prevention efforts.
- Supervise and guide LPNs and less experienced nursing staff within the programs.
OPWDD Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
- Active New York State RN license and registration.
- CPR/BLS certification is required for the role.
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience, with 2 years preferred.
- Experience with developmental disabilities or OPWDD programs is highly desirable.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams and maintain confidentiality.
- Familiarity with adaptive equipment and community-based care practices is a plus.
- Proficiency in English for effective communication and documentation.
