Job Description

OPWDD Registered Nurse Overview

  • The OPWDD Registered Nurse will provide clinical care and support for individuals with developmental disabilities in a community-based program.
  • Deliver health monitoring, medication management, and nursing assessments tailored to individual needs.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care and support plans.
  • Coordinate medical appointments, referrals, and follow-up care for program participants.
  • Provide training to staff on vital signs, infection control, and medication administration.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with medical documentation and record-keeping standards.
  • Support infection control initiatives and communicable disease prevention strategies.
  • Collaborate with families, physicians, and healthcare professionals to enhance care delivery.

OPWDD Registered Nurse Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct nursing assessments, care planning, and follow-ups for individuals receiving services.
  • Administer medications and oversee medication storage and staff administration practices.
  • Monitor and document health status and treatment plans for program participants.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, annual reviews, and case conferences.
  • Provide staff training on first aid, hygiene, and recognizing signs of illness.
  • Coordinate transportation and accompany individuals to medical appointments as needed.
  • Maintain nursing supplies and ensure the nursing office is properly stocked.
  • Visit individuals in their homes or community settings for care and support.
  • Perform other nursing and program-related duties as required.

OPWDD Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Active New York State RN license and registration.
  • CPR/BLS certification is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience; 2 years preferred.
  • Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or OPWDD is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with adaptive equipment and wheelchairs is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in English for effective communication and documentation.
