OPWDD Registered Nurse Overview
- The OPWDD Registered Nurse will provide clinical care and support for individuals with developmental disabilities in a community-based program.
- Deliver health monitoring, medication management, and nursing assessments tailored to individual needs.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care and support plans.
- Coordinate medical appointments, referrals, and follow-up care for program participants.
- Provide training to staff on vital signs, infection control, and medication administration.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with medical documentation and record-keeping standards.
- Support infection control initiatives and communicable disease prevention strategies.
- Collaborate with families, physicians, and healthcare professionals to enhance care delivery.
OPWDD Registered Nurse Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Conduct nursing assessments, care planning, and follow-ups for individuals receiving services.
- Administer medications and oversee medication storage and staff administration practices.
- Monitor and document health status and treatment plans for program participants.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, annual reviews, and case conferences.
- Provide staff training on first aid, hygiene, and recognizing signs of illness.
- Coordinate transportation and accompany individuals to medical appointments as needed.
- Maintain nursing supplies and ensure the nursing office is properly stocked.
- Visit individuals in their homes or community settings for care and support.
- Perform other nursing and program-related duties as required.
OPWDD Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
- Active New York State RN license and registration.
- CPR/BLS certification is mandatory.
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience; 2 years preferred.
- Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or OPWDD is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with adaptive equipment and wheelchairs is advantageous.
- Proficiency in English for effective communication and documentation.
