Behavioral Health Auditor Overview
- The Behavioral Health Auditor will oversee compliance and quality assurance within behavioral health documentation processes.
- Conduct audits of clinical documentation to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop corrective action plans and improve documentation workflows.
- Provide constructive feedback to clinical staff regarding documentation requirements and compliance.
- Ensure documentation supports appropriate clinical care, billing, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and applicable privacy requirements.
- Work closely with the Behavioral Health leadership team to enhance chart quality and compliance workflows.
- Participate in internal reviews, mock audits, payer audits, and regulatory audits.

Behavioral Health Auditor Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Conduct regular audits of behavioral health charts and clinical documentation.
- Review progress notes, intake assessments, treatment plans, safety plans, and screenings.
- Identify documentation gaps, trends, and areas requiring follow-up or staff retraining.
- Prepare clear audit findings and reports for leadership and clinical supervisors.
- Support corrective action plans related to documentation and compliance findings.
- Assist with internal reviews, mock audits, payer audits, and regulatory audits.
- Provide professional and constructive feedback to clinical staff regarding documentation requirements.

Behavioral Health Auditor Job Requirements
- Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or a related behavioral health field required.
- Acceptable credentials include MSW, MHC-LP, LMSW, LCSW, or LMHC.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral health chart review or compliance.
- Preferred experience of 4 years in quality assurance or clinical documentation review.
- Knowledge of behavioral health documentation standards, treatment planning, and progress notes.
- Experience in a clinic, community health center, or similar healthcare setting preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify documentation deficiencies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working with EMR systems and audit tracking tools.
