Ambulatory Surgery Center Nurse Director Overview

  • The Ambulatory Surgery Center Nurse Director oversees clinical operations and strategic initiatives across two ambulatory surgery centers.
  • Lead efforts in accreditation compliance, quality assurance, and operational excellence to ensure high standards of patient care.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, physicians, and administrative teams to align clinical goals with organizational priorities.
  • Develop and implement clinical education programs to elevate staff competencies and professional growth.
  • Monitor staffing models and manage recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for surgical nursing teams.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for physician partners, addressing clinical concerns and fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to optimize patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with QUAD A accreditation standards and regulatory requirements through rigorous documentation and audits.

Ambulatory Surgery Center Nurse Director Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead strategic planning and decision-making for clinical operations in collaboration with executive leadership.
  • Oversee QUAD A accreditation compliance, including preparation for surveys and corrective action plans.
  • Design and manage quality assurance projects and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor day-to-day clinical operations to ensure efficient and safe patient care delivery.
  • Facilitate communication and resolution between physicians and clinical staff regarding care delivery standards.
  • Develop staffing models and manage recruitment, hiring, and performance evaluations for surgical teams.
  • Implement clinical education programs to maintain staff certifications and elevate competencies.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation standards and oversee policy development cycles.
  • Analyze clinical data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Ambulatory Surgery Center Nurse Director Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing is required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is mandatory; MSN or related graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, preferably in ambulatory surgery settings.
  • Experience with QUAD A accreditation processes or similar regulatory standards is strongly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in clinical quality assurance, performance improvement, and operational leadership.
  • CNOR or CASC certification is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead and collaborate effectively.
  • Ability to manage multi-site clinical operations and develop targeted staff education programs.
  • Familiarity with physician practice environments and combined practice-surgery center models is advantageous.
