Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Overview

  • The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide essential clinical support in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Assist practitioners and deliver patient education, ensuring optimal care and adherence to protocols.
  • Perform clinical nursing functions, including vital signs, medication administration, and patient screenings.
  • Support diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including EKGs, vision tests, and inhalation treatments.
  • Maintain clinical equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness and compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure continuity of patient care and effective communication.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Screen, discharge, and counsel patients, documenting clinical observations in medical records.
  • Administer medications and treatments, including immunizations and inhalation therapies, per protocols.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as EKGs, vision tests, and blood glucose monitoring.
  • Assist practitioners during examinations and minor surgical procedures.
  • Order and manage medications, immunizations, and clinical supplies, maintaining accurate records.
  • Process laboratory tests, referrals, and requisitions according to clinical guidelines.
  • Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of clinical equipment and instruments.
  • Prepare examination rooms and organize supplies for practitioner use.
  • Participate in meetings and adhere to infection control measures and safety standards.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and graduation from an approved School of Practical Nursing.
  • Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in New York State.
  • Minimum of 1 year of healthcare delivery experience; training provided for recent graduates.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records software and Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively in a busy clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with family medicine and ambulatory clinic operations preferred.
  • Commitment to adhering to National Patient Safety Goals and JAHCO standards.
  • Ability to perform clinical procedures and assist in diagnostic and therapeutic treatments.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with clinical, clerical, and managerial staff.
