Cardiac Sonographer Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform echocardiography procedures to evaluate cardiac structures and hemodynamics independently.
  • Review patient history and physician orders to ensure accurate and effective imaging.
  • Educate patients about procedures, equipment, and expected outcomes to ensure cooperation and understanding.
  • Select and use appropriate transducers and imaging parameters based on patient anatomy and diagnostic needs.
  • Administer contrast media and medications within scope of practice when required.
  • Monitor patient condition during procedures and respond to changes in status appropriately.
  • Implement safety standards and perform quality control procedures on imaging equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions to ensure consistent imaging quality.
  • Analyze imaging results, identify quality issues, and report findings accurately.

Cardiac Sonographer Job Requirements

  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree or equivalent in allied health or related field.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited provider, valid at hire.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in cardiac sonography preferred.
  • Proficiency in using advanced imaging equipment and technologies.
  • Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics.
  • Ability to educate patients effectively and ensure their comfort during procedures.
  • Commitment to safety standards and quality control in imaging practices.
