Cardiac Sonographer Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform echocardiography procedures to evaluate cardiac structures and hemodynamics independently.
- Review patient history and physician orders to ensure accurate and effective imaging.
- Educate patients about procedures, equipment, and expected outcomes to ensure cooperation and understanding.
- Select and use appropriate transducers and imaging parameters based on patient anatomy and diagnostic needs.
- Administer contrast media and medications within scope of practice when required.
- Monitor patient condition during procedures and respond to changes in status appropriately.
- Implement safety standards and perform quality control procedures on imaging equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions to ensure consistent imaging quality.
- Analyze imaging results, identify quality issues, and report findings accurately.
Cardiac Sonographer Job Requirements
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree or equivalent in allied health or related field.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited provider, valid at hire.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in cardiac sonography preferred.
- Proficiency in using advanced imaging equipment and technologies.
- Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics.
- Ability to educate patients effectively and ensure their comfort during procedures.
- Commitment to safety standards and quality control in imaging practices.
