Hospice On-Call Nurse Overview

  • The Hospice On-Call Nurse provides critical care to hospice patients during on-call hours every other week.
  • This role follows a Baylor-model schedule, ensuring full-time status with biweekly on-call coverage.
  • Responsibilities include evening weekday coverage and 24-hour weekend coverage on alternate weeks.
  • Scheduled productivity includes two weighted visits per on-call shift, excluding PRN or Pronouncements.
  • The position offers training for candidates with relevant experience in LTC, ICU/ER, or oncology settings.
  • Participates in holiday rotation, covering one major and one minor holiday annually.
  • Provides expertise in pain and symptom management, ensuring quality end-of-life care.

Hospice On-Call Nurse Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide on-call nursing care during designated evening and weekend hours every other week.
  • Conduct scheduled visits and manage patient care with a focus on hospice principles and philosophy.
  • Ensure effective pain and symptom management for terminal care patients.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address patient needs and provide holistic care.
  • Participate in holiday coverage rotation as required by the organization.

Hospice On-Call Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current RN license in Connecticut and diploma or associate degree in nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Minimum one year of clinical experience in palliative, hospice, LTC, ICU/ER, or oncology care.
  • Strong understanding of hospice principles and philosophy, with expertise in terminal care management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage pain and symptoms effectively for hospice patients.
  • Willingness to participate in training programs for role-specific skills and knowledge.
  • Flexibility to work on-call hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
