Payroll Specialist Overview
- The Payroll Specialist will manage semi-monthly payroll processes for a nationwide workforce, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Collaborate with the accounting team to maintain payroll records and support employee expense reporting.
- Handle payroll-related inquiries, resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely processing of payroll taxes and deductions.
- Assist with compliance to federal, state, and local payroll requirements, including multi-state payroll regulations.
- Support payroll reporting, reconciliations, and contribute to special projects as needed.
- Work in a remote environment, leveraging tools such as Paylocity and Microsoft Business Central.

Payroll Specialist Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Process semi-monthly payroll for employees across multiple states, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Review employee hours, payroll changes, deductions, and other payroll information for accuracy.
- Resolve payroll-related discrepancies and handle employee inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Assist with payroll taxes, garnishments, and other required deductions.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with payroll regulations.
- Support expense reporting and assist with payroll reconciliations and reporting.
- Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure seamless payroll operations.
- Participate in special projects and initiatives to improve payroll processes.
Payroll Specialist Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in a relevant field.
- Minimum of 1 year of hands-on payroll experience; 5 years preferred.
- Experience with multi-state payroll and hourly/non-exempt employee populations.
- Knowledge of California payroll laws and regulations is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with payroll systems such as Paylocity is a plus.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with expense reporting tools like Ramp and accounting systems like Microsoft Business Central.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle confidential employee information.
