Job Description

Licensed Practical Nurse Overview

  • The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide essential clinical nursing functions within an ambulatory care setting.
  • Assist practitioners in delivering patient care and education while adhering to established protocols and standards.
  • Perform procedures such as vital signs collection, medication administration, and diagnostic testing as per LPN licensure.
  • Support patient care continuity by managing laboratory tests, referrals, and follow-up procedures.
  • Maintain clinical equipment, supplies, and emergency resources in compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure seamless patient care delivery.
  • Contribute to organizational goals and participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Provide high-quality care while adhering to infection control measures and OSHA standards.

Licensed Practical Nurse Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Screen, interview, counsel, and educate patients in clinical areas under RN supervision.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and perform procedures such as EKGs and vision tests.
  • Assist providers during examinations and minor surgeries, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Order and maintain medications, immunizations, and clinical supplies, ensuring accurate records.
  • Process laboratory tests, referrals, and radiology requisitions following established protocols.
  • Retrieve and review laboratory and radiology reports for practitioners’ use.
  • Ensure clinical equipment and instruments are cleaned, sterilized, and maintained properly.
  • Prepare examination rooms with necessary supplies and instruments for practitioner use.
  • Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals and JAHCO standards in nursing practices.

Licensed Practical Nurse Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and graduation from an approved School of Practical Nursing.
  • Valid LPN License in New York State is mandatory.
  • Healthcare delivery experience; recent graduates are welcome with training provided.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records software and Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively in a busy clinic environment.
  • Knowledge of infection control measures and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standards.
  • Ability to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as per LPN licensure.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with clinical and administrative staff.
