Preschool Special Education Teacher Overview

• The Preschool Special Education Teacher will deliver tailored educational programming for preschool students with special needs, ensuring compliance with NYS requirements and individual plans.
• Act as a team leader, supervising Teacher Assistants and fostering a collaborative classroom environment.
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) for students.
• Conduct assessments and evaluations to monitor developmental and educational progress.
• Prepare lesson plans, classroom materials, and environmental modifications to support student learning.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, parent conferences, and annual reviews to ensure student success.
• Provide hands-on support for students during activities, transitions, and daily routines.
• Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and skills.

Preschool Special Education Teacher Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Plan and conduct classroom lessons and activities tailored to individual student needs.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate IEP/IFSP goals and objectives.
• Complete educational assessments and annual evaluations across developmental domains.
• Prepare lesson plans, classroom materials, and environmental modifications.
• Maintain attendance records, progress notes, and required documentation.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and parent conferences.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate Teacher Assistants in the classroom.
• Assist students with daily needs such as toileting, feeding, and positioning.
• Engage in professional development and staff training sessions.

Preschool Special Education Teacher Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
• NYS Certification in Special Education Early Childhood (Birth–Grade 2) preferred.
• Experience working with preschool-aged children and/or students with developmental disabilities.
• Strong understanding of IEPs/IFSPs and individualized educational programming.
• Comfortable supervising Teacher Assistants and acting as the classroom team lead.
• Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills.
• Available Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–3:00 PM, for on-site work.
• Commitment to maintaining student and staff confidentiality.
