Family Law Paralegal Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Draft pleadings, discovery requests, and responses to support litigation processes.
  • Organize and review documents for discovery, depositions, and trial preparation.
  • Perform privilege reviews and create detailed privilege logs.
  • Prepare exhibits and materials for trial and deposition proceedings.
  • Conduct witness interviews and summarize findings for attorney review.
  • Manage electronic filing systems and maintain comprehensive case files.
  • Ensure timely updates to attorneys’ calendars and deadlines.
  • Utilize litigation software and document management tools effectively.

Family Law Paralegal Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation paralegal experience; 6 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in Maryland and D.C. legal rules and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research platforms like LexisNexis or Westlaw.
