• The Director of Laboratory Services leads clinical laboratory operations, ensuring quality, compliance, and efficiency in diagnostic services.
• Oversee laboratory operations and collaborate with pathologists and hospital leadership to deliver accurate diagnostic services.
• Manage laboratory quality assurance, compliance, and budgetary adherence to optimize service delivery.
• Implement new tests, methods, and programs to enhance laboratory capabilities and productivity.
• Provide leadership in staff hiring, training, evaluation, and continuing education for professional growth.
• Maintain laboratory equipment performance through quality standards and troubleshooting procedures.
• Support licensure and continuing education compliance through in-services and training initiatives.
• Collaborate on laboratory information system improvements, ensuring security and confidentiality.
• Lead change initiatives and productivity improvements through meetings, committees, and task forces.

Director of Laboratory Services Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Direct laboratory operations, including specimen preparation, analytical procedures, and result reporting.
• Ensure compliance with hospital and accreditation standards in all laboratory processes.
• Manage department budget and provide justification for variances when necessary.
• Monitor workload and productivity, adjusting operations and staffing as needed.
• Lead QA/QC activities, including policy updates, reporting, and recordkeeping.
• Oversee laboratory information system needs, recommend improvements, and train staff.
• Hire, coach, counsel, discipline, and evaluate laboratory staff performance.
• Support licensure and continuing education compliance through training and orientation.
• Oversee students in allied health programs and ensure a productive learning environment.

Director of Laboratory Services Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field is required.
• Medical Technologist/MLS certification through ASCP or AMT is mandatory.
• Current West Virginia High Complexity Testing Personnel license or eligibility to obtain one.
• Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience, including 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Master's degree in Clinical Laboratory Management or related field is preferred.
• Proficiency in medical technology and management principles is essential.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Ability to serve patients across all age groups effectively.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe environment and infection control practices.
