- The Controller – Portfolio Accounting leads financial operations for a diversified real estate portfolio, ensuring compliance and accuracy in reporting.
- Oversee assistant controllers and portfolio accountants, fostering a collaborative and efficient accounting team.
- Manage property accounting and fund-level reporting for acquisitions, dispositions, and investments.
- Collaborate with asset and portfolio management teams to optimize financial strategies.
- Engage with third-party service providers, including auditors, tax preparers, and legal counsel.
- Handle investor requests and maintain robust client relationships through effective communication.
- Ensure compliance with debt agreements and regulatory requirements, maintaining financial integrity.
- Contribute to the firm's performance metrics, corporate budgeting, and strategic planning initiatives.
Controller – Portfolio Accounting Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Lead accounting and reporting for direct real estate investments and joint ventures.
- Review quarterly consolidations, financial statements, and client reporting processes.
- Manage year-end audits and ensure timely financial statement preparation.
- Oversee compliance with debt agreements and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with corporate accounting teams to align performance metrics and budgets.
- Supervise assistant controllers and portfolio accountants, ensuring operational efficiency.
- Coordinate with asset management teams to align financial strategies with portfolio objectives.
- Engage with external auditors, tax professionals, and legal advisors for compliance and planning.
Controller – Portfolio Accounting Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting or related field required.
- 10-15 years of experience in real estate portfolio accounting or audit.
- CPA certification and public accounting experience, preferably with Big 4 firms.
- Proficiency in Excel and data management tools; MRI or Yardi experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with REIT structures and private equity accounting is a plus.
- Familiarity with Workiva or Anaplan software is advantageous.
- Proven ability to manage teams and collaborate across departments.
