Senior Director, Tax Overview

  • The Senior Director, Tax oversees all tax functions, providing strategic direction and hands-on oversight across federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
  • Collaborates extensively with legal, accounting, finance, and development teams to support organizational objectives and growth strategies.
  • Leads the development and execution of tax strategies, focusing on compliance, risk management, and effective tax rate minimization.
  • Drives innovation by adopting AI and automation tools to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency in tax processes.
  • Provides technical guidance on partnership taxation, entity structuring, and legal entity rationalization.
  • Advises executive leadership on strategic transactions, capital structures, and legislative impacts.
  • Manages relationships with external advisors and ensures compliance with federal and state tax audits.
  • Establishes internal controls and policies to maintain the integrity of tax functions and reporting.

Senior Director, Tax Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead all aspects of tax compliance, planning, and reporting across multi-state jurisdictions.
  • Develop and execute tax strategies focusing on LIHTC, REITS, and minimizing tax risks.
  • Oversee preparation and review of complex tax returns, including consolidated filings.
  • Direct tax structuring for acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and development projects.
  • Champion the adoption of AI tools to improve tax research and reporting processes.
  • Provide guidance on partnership taxation and entity structuring to support operations.
  • Monitor legislative developments and assess their impact on tax strategies.

Senior Director, Tax Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of tax experience, with significant expertise in real estate taxation.
  • CPA required; JD, LLM in Taxation, or MST strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of multi-state partnership tax compliance and planning.
  • Proficiency in multi-state income, franchise, and property tax compliance.
  • Experience managing federal and state tax audits and examinations.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting complex tax matters to executives.
  • Experience with public accounting firms in real estate tax practices preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead and innovate within a tax function.
