Position Overview
A respected 150-bed hospital in Modesto, California is seeking an experienced Operating Room Nurse Manager to lead their surgical services department. This executive nursing leadership role offers an excellent opportunity to manage a busy surgical suite comprising 9 operating rooms with a focus on orthopedic and general surgery procedures, along with some trauma cases. The ideal Operating Room Nurse Manager candidate will bring strong leadership tenure, progressive management experience, and a solid foundation in perioperative nursing practice.

Primary Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the entire perioperative department
- Oversee daily management of the operating room environment, including staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation
- Develop, implement, and evaluate perioperative policies, procedures, and protocols
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (CMS, TJC, AORN, etc.)
- Manage departmental budgets, capital equipment planning, and financial performance
- Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and surgical outcomes
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing surgical nursing staff
- Foster collaborative relationships with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers
- Implement evidence-based practices and new technologies in the surgical environment
- Support a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Participate in hospital-wide leadership initiatives and strategic planning
Collaborative Team Structure
- The Nurse Manager is supported by a team of Assistant Nurse Managers
- Direct supervision of perioperative nursing staff, surgical technicians, and support personnel
- Partnership with orthopedic and general surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical specialists
- Coordination with Pre-op, PACU, and Central Sterile Processing departments
- Collaboration with hospital executive leadership on strategic initiatives
- Engagement with interdisciplinary teams to optimize surgical throughput and efficiency
- Participation in hospital-wide quality and safety committees
Required Qualifications
- Current California RN license
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required, Master's degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years of operating room nursing experience
- Minimum 3 years of progressive leadership experience in perioperative services
- Strong clinical foundation in surgical nursing practices
- CNOR certification preferred
