Overview
- Lead the operations of a Level III NICU, ensuring high-quality care for neonatal patients.
- Collaborate with medical and nursing directors to achieve departmental goals and regulatory compliance.
- Supervise clinical staff, providing mentorship and ensuring adherence to standards and policies.
- Coordinate staffing schedules and manage productivity metrics for the department.
- Develop and implement performance improvement projects, presenting results to staff and leadership.
- Ensure timely evaluations and maintain employee files in compliance with organizational standards.
- Provide direct patient care and respond to emergencies as needed within the NICU.
- Support staff recognition initiatives and facilitate departmental meetings effectively.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Supervise clinical and ancillary staff, ensuring quality patient care and adherence to policies.
- Collaborate with the NICU Medical Director on patient care strategies and operational improvements.
- Manage departmental budgets, including equipment procurement and contract invoicing.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including Title 22, TJC, CDPH, and CCS standards.
- Conduct family rounding to address concerns and enhance patient satisfaction.
- Develop and oversee staff schedules, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions to maintain patient safety.
- Facilitate staff meetings and contribute to the Neonatal Operations Committee discussions.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of NICU experience, with 3 years in a leadership role.
- Current California RN license, BLS, and NRP certifications; Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing certification preferred.
- Strong clinical competence and leadership skills with experience in performance improvement projects.
- Proficiency in managing departmental budgets, productivity metrics, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience with critical care transport and NRP instructor certification is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills to address operational challenges effectively.
