Overview
- Contribute to the design, testing, and integration of mechanical systems for advanced UAS platforms in a hybrid work environment.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance drone airframes, payload bays, and launch/recovery systems.
- Conduct structural and thermal analysis using CAD tools to optimize system performance.
- Participate in field missions, R&D testing, and demonstrations to ensure operational excellence.
- Ensure compliance with FAA regulations and maintain detailed operational records.
- Work in diverse environments, including office, lab, and outdoor field settings.
- Engage in hands-on prototyping and fabrication to support innovative solutions.
- Travel as required to support field operations and testing activities.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Design, build, and test mechanical systems for UAS platforms, ensuring reliability and performance.
- Support integration of propulsion, power, telemetry, and payload components at the system level.
- Conduct failure analysis and implement corrective actions to enhance system robustness.
- Perform CAD-based structural and thermal simulations to validate designs.
- Operate UAS platforms during field missions, ensuring airworthiness and safety compliance.
- Maintain detailed flight logs, operational checklists, and maintenance records.
- Collaborate with software, electrical, and aerospace engineers to achieve project goals.
- Support mission planning, site surveys, and risk assessments for field operations.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in UAS platforms, including assembly and repair.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate or willingness to obtain is essential.
- Proficiency in CAD tools like SolidWorks and Fusion 360 is required.
- Hands-on prototyping and fabrication experience, including 3D printing and machining.
- Knowledge of UAS propulsion, aerodynamics, and mechanical subsystems is preferred.
- Experience with autopilot systems and materials selection for aerospace applications is advantageous.
- Ability to lift and transport UAS systems and equipment up to 50 lbs.
