Job Description
Overview
- Manage operations of histology, cytology, and MOHS laboratories ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Coordinate activities of laboratory staff, including supervisors and technologists, to maintain high-quality testing services.
- Develop and implement departmental goals, objectives, and budgets in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Ensure employee competency, education, and compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Promote positive customer service and employee relations while fostering teamwork within the department.
- Maintain knowledge of laboratory operations and regulatory standards to ensure compliance.
- Oversee quality control programs and prepare monthly reports for section meetings.
- Support staff training, orientation, and ongoing competency development.
- Collaborate with vendors to resolve issues and improve laboratory software utilization.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Supervise laboratory staff, including scientists, technologists, and assistants, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
- Prepare payroll and time sheets for laboratory sections as required.
- Monitor assay turnaround times and implement improvements as needed.
- Document test implementation and staff training activities.
- Participate in committees, task forces, and projects to support hospital initiatives.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets for operations and capital equipment.
- Ensure compliance with accrediting agencies' regulatory standards for laboratory operations.
- Hire, evaluate, and counsel employees in accordance with hospital policies.
- Maintain effective communication within the laboratory and with external stakeholders.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Technology or related science required.
- Minimum of six years of relevant hospital experience.
- Current New York State license as Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist, or Pathologists’ Assistant required.
- Preferred certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
- Strong knowledge of laboratory operations and regulatory compliance standards.
- Proven ability to manage and lead a multidisciplinary team effectively.
- Experience in developing and managing budgets and departmental goals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and collaboration.
